Lissadell House, Drumcliffe, Co Sligo, Ireland

A fine but austere example of Greek-Revival architecture

"A fine but austere example of Greek-Revival architecture, Lissadell was childhood home to Irish patriot Constance Markievicz and is immortalized in the poetry of her friend W. B. Yeats, 'that old Georgian Mansion, great windows open to the south, two girls in silk kimonos, both beautiful, one a gazelle. Both house and gardens have undergone extensive restoration since 2003, and offer visitors a wonderful insight into Ireland's political, artistic and literary and famine history. For garden lovers, the 413 acre estate includes two walled in gardens, one a 2.5 acre Victorian Kitchen Garden, and the other a regency garden by the seashore with a famous Alpine Rockery.
